"Kevin Drewbrought 'The Funeral' to the table,"Ryder tells Spinner, adding she was all too happy to take direction from theBroken Social Scenemainstay, who produced on the disc. The Toronto singer-songwriter than passed the regins off to video director Hill Kourkoutis to create the perfect visual pairing for the song.
"'The Funeral' toys with the idea of wandering souls and the realizations that hit us when we observe the moments we live as a 'fly on the wall,'"says Kourkoutis."It is a video showing what we endure through our mistakes and growth and the journey that accompanies the former to the latter."
In the clip -- the second in Spinner'sseriesof video premieres for the songs off the collaborated EP between Ryder and her hometown rocker pals -- a young man in a dream-like state revisits the last days of a failed relationship. At first, we're presented with a pair of lovebirds cuddling on the couch and brushing their teeth side by side while sharing goofy grins.
But the love-in is not meant to be. As Ryder's voice climaxes ("To the Outside, the dead leaves, they all blow/For'e they died had trees to hang their hope") we bear witness to the final argument that lays this relationship to rest.
"The videos draw inspiration from the heartfelt, tongue-in-cheek and energetic performances delivered from Serena accompanied by the Beauties,"says Kourkoutis of the four-part project."Each video has it's own flair, its own life, weaving together stories of loss, heartache, duality and creation."
